I was emailing a colleague last night. It was a great conversation back and forth about nothing. It made me recall when I was in my mid 20’s. A simple conversation re Low Earth Orbit (for non space people the distance is like driving from NY to Boston) and music. I remember when I was his age I was quick to say I knew someone or understood something but with the gift of time I know this is usually wrong.
So, I sent an email saying I was going to DMB in August at the Hollywood Bowl (LA) and his response was close to: “is that a computer acronym, you do not know DMB.” I could have said they started touring when he was maybe 4 or 5 etc but that would not have been worth the effort. Then I said I was getting ready to go this weekend to see: Orphée & Eurydice performed by the Opera Company of Philadelphia. I find it hard to believe that that people are so ready to put someone in a bucket so quick because of age or perceived likes or dislikes. Well his age group never had the Dead.
The moral of this story is one should reserve judgment and keep an open mind! It is clearly possible for someone to like music ranging from Opera to DMB. When we have a pre judgment of someone we never get to know them. I guess we both failed on this one 🙂
