I was emailing a colleague last night. It was a great conversation back and forth about nothing. It made me recall when I was in my mid 20’s. A simple conversation re Low Earth Orbit (for non space people the distance is like driving from NY to Boston) and music. I remember when I was his age I was quick to say I knew someone or understood something but with the gift of time I know this is usually wrong.
So, I sent an email saying I was going to DMB in August at the Hollywood Bowl (LA) and his response was close to: “is that a computer acronym, you do not know DMB.” I could have said they started touring when he was maybe 4 or 5 etc but that would not have been worth the effort. Then I said I was getting ready to go this weekend to see: Orphée & Eurydice performed by the Opera Company of Philadelphia. I find it hard to believe that that people are so ready to put someone in a bucket so quick because of age or perceived likes or dislikes. Well his age group never had the Dead.
The moral of this story is one should reserve judgment and keep an open mind! It is clearly possible for someone to like music ranging from Opera to DMB. When we have a pre judgment of someone we never get to know them. I guess we both failed on this one 🙂
It was near amazing but I was able to coordinate a trip to Vilnius while in Italy to tour a bit and check out the local software development and sights. The photo to the right is the Three Crosses which can be seen from many spots but this is from Gedimas Castle/Tower. I am going with my Cousin Karen, it will be cool as We have not gotten together for like three years. During the Spring I painted a full wall in my third floor computer office (Oil on gesso’d sheet rock) came out great, if I ever sell the house I will need to cut the wall out.
I have my carriage house (34a Labs) all open for the season. This includes a new bar and two new telescopes. A big win was Win7 Drivers for my Laserjet. In an odd happening, if happening is the right word, I now have more mac workstations in my labs on both one and two – and no computers in the loft.
It should be a weekend boating and seeing a concert. Nothing special…
Twitter Round-up: Twitter was interesting this week, sometimes it turns into a bad conversation, everyone talking and no one listening! Of interest was a conversation on faith. Now politics and religion are always a good topic to avoid but my comment is this:
Religion is a matter of faith
Atheism is a matter of faith, just look at wikipedia definition: Atheism, in a broad sense, is the rejection of belief in the existence of deities. As strong atheism, atheism is specifically the position that there are no deities . NO PROOF SO IT HAS TO BE FAITH
I think many people that are atheist may really be agnostic: (wikipedia again) Agnosticism is the view that the truth value of certain claims—especially claims about the existence or non-existence of any deity, but also other religious and metaphysical claims—is unknown or unknowable.
OOPS – Forgot Sprinkler System on and need to go play the piano…
