Madrid is one of those places that I love to go and like most cities it can take days and even multiple visits to unlock bot the charm of the city and the cities personality itself. With this in mind it is good to go in every season. Going in August is an interesting time because the city itself can be somewhat empty, by comparison. This is because the city empties out to vacation spots like the beach.
Like any visit in Madrid I find it impossible to go without visiting:
- Plaza Mayor
- Parque del Buen Retiro
- Gran Café de Gijón
These places all have a good bit of character and each has something for most travelers. Simply bing or google it and you will find something in each place for your liking. Much like Jerusalem in Spain you will also see many grand and old buildings. The streets of Spain themselves hold much history. On this trip I also went in search of some history. A Simple train trip and an hour (slow train-local) outside of Madrid and you come to El Escorial… The historical residence of the king of Spain this landmark and small town are a must see if you have the time.
Alas this trip is over and all that is left is to upload the photos when I get back to the states. Many of the photos have the issue of auto focus not cutting it, just like the one in this post. So before I go to LA next week to see the DMB I must find a fix for this.
Buenos Días,
Rob
