Madrid is one of those places that I love to go and like most cities it can take days and even multiple visits to unlock bot the charm of the city and the cities personality itself. With this in mind it is good to go in every season. Going in August is an interesting time because the city itself can be somewhat empty, by comparison. This is because the city empties out to vacation spots like the beach.
Like any visit in Madrid I find it impossible to go without visiting:
- Plaza Mayor
- Parque del Buen Retiro
- Gran Café de Gijón
These places all have a good bit of character and each has something for most travelers. Simply bing or google it and you will find something in each place for your liking. Much like Jerusalem in Spain you will also see many grand and old buildings. The streets of Spain themselves hold much history. On this trip I also went in search of some history. A Simple train trip and an hour (slow train-local) outside of Madrid and you come to El Escorial… The historical residence of the king of Spain this landmark and small town are a must see if you have the time.
Alas this trip is over and all that is left is to upload the photos when I get back to the states. Many of the photos have the issue of auto focus not cutting it, just like the one in this post. So before I go to LA next week to see the DMB I must find a fix for this.
OH, and i got foursquare to update properly on my blackberry, not sure what I think about it…
A few people told me to use foursquare on my blackberry. I tried it, and up to this point it seems to not, on my phone and with proper permissions, be able to figure out that I am in Spain. So I guess it is good for those not using blackberry’s in the EU. However we all know this is anecdotal evidence but in the end some things should just work and not waste so much time!
From the lake.
Updated my shutterfly site. More posts from Spain later this week

It has been a busy summer of sorts and I think I may have taken on too much. From writing code to language studies I have been straight out. Yesterday was a fun day, because I hiked up a mountain. For those who have never done it I recommend it as a “Must Do.” This weekend it was the relentless hike up to Tuckerman’s Ravine on Mt. Washington. Relentless, now for Dante fans, if you wonder what I mean by this, “Abandon all hope, ye who enter here”. If you accept this premise you will make it. Just set your mind to it and hike, rock scramble, climb and get through. You must also remember that while you will be taking a break or two you must be very careful, do not sit down and let your muscles relax too much (Unless your doctor tells you to or you have to) here is a good article on Lactic Acid that explains this concept: http://www.scientificamerican.com/article.cfm?id=why-does-lactic-acid-buil
A good way to know if your exercise routine is working is to climb a mountain. In general my workout seems to be working well! I saw quite a few 20 year olds that need a new workout routine, LOL.
I posted some photos of the hike on shutterfly. http://yonaitis.shutterfly.com/
Now it is time to play with moo.
