Well with a week before Ash Wednesday it appears that I have a hard choice, every year I have been giving up things for lent and I am unsure what I can give up this year. I will of course do my new tradition of fasting daily between sunrise and sunset including abstaining from meat for the period of lent. I also generally abstain from something else also. The problem I have is what else to abstain from. With four treks scheduled I have already decided to abstain from much. The simple and incomplete list is:
• Artificial Sweetener
• Sugar that is not organic
• Diet Sodas of any kind (artificial sweetener)
• Diet Anything (stuff is mainly chemicals)
• Alcohol unless wine or when culturally accurate (e.g. Vodka in Eastern Europe, Beer in the UK or Sake in Asia) and then no more than once a week.
• Refined carbs (like white bread)
• Fluids Limited to no more than Eight glasses a day unless on Trek somewhere hot or after a run
• Advil or Advil PM (way to toxic if used wrong IMHO – look it up yourself)
• White wine unless Cava or Champagne (Never liked the stuff anyway, so this does not count)
• Pasta (Just Kidding!!)
So what is really left to give up, what vice do I have anymore? The sad thing about me is I go all out on something, for me now it is all about code and getting ready for hikes/climbs… So I am afraid I really do not have anything to give up.
Now from a religious perspective I think I got lent covered but during this period I like to give something up. So I have no idea as to what it will be, this is tough. I am thinking of something crazier for this year, adding something:
• Do one painting a week
• Study another language daily
• Set up a new network in my house
• Hardwire the carriage house
Well as you can see it is difficult, well tune in next week if you have any interest
Iki,
Rob
